# 10.3 Labelling & Packaging

Amazon is strict about how products are labelled and packed. Getting this wrong is the most common reason a new seller's shipment gets held up or rejected at the FC, so it's worth doing carefully the first time.

## FNSKU Labels

Every individual unit needs an FNSKU barcode label (unless the product qualifies for Amazon's "Stickerless, Commingled" programme, which most new sellers should avoid until they understand the trade-offs). You print these from Seller Central as part of the shipment workflow, and they must cover or sit alongside the original barcode so Amazon's scanners read the FNSKU, not the manufacturer's UPC or EAN.

Use a proper label printer (thermal label printers are cheap and standard in this business) or adhesive label sheets. Labels must be scannable, not smudged, and firmly stuck down, a peeling label can get a box held at the FC.

## Poly Bagging

Certain products need poly bagging for safety reasons: loose items that could pose a choking hazard, liquids, powders, or anything that could leak or contaminate other products. Amazon's guidelines specify exactly which categories require this, check the requirements for each product type in Seller Central before packing.

## Box Requirements

Boxes must be sturdy enough to survive transit, properly sealed, and within Amazon's size and weight limits (typically up to 25kg per box, though this varies). Each box needs the box label from 10.2 attached to one side, clearly visible.

## Expiry Dates

If a product has an expiry date, Amazon requires that date to be entered during the shipment creation process, and in most cases a "made on" or "expiry" label needs to be visible on the unit. This mostly affects food, supplements, and cosmetics.

## The General Rule

If you're ever unsure whether something needs a specific label or packaging step, check Seller Central's guidance for that exact product before shipping, not after. A mislabelled shipment can mean delays, extra fees, or the FC refusing to check it in.
